Functie omschrijving

The dynamic development of this international trading company in a competitive market requires a strong Sales Director to provide strategic and practical direction by designing, shaping and developing business plans, setting direction and leading its execution. You will give hands-on support to the multi channel business, and the Sales Team where needed. Backed by your knowledge of the markets you lead the Benelux Sales Team by giving clear direction and targets, coaching and motivation. You set clear targets and drive the achievement of business objectives and growth in the region. Building a strong internal and external network and liaise internally within the Sales Force and Support functions is your second nature. The role of Sales Director Benelux within this company is more than just having a smooth talk and commercial insight: this role calls for a real commercial leader who leads from the front – a true hunter - with a profound understanding of the multi channel business. This is evident in everything you do and is an essential part of your personality. You feel at home in a challenging work environment where no-nonsense, targets, and customer focus are central. You have persuasive skills, and you are creative in finding opportunities to win new customers and to retain existing customers.

Your tasks and responsibilities include, among others:
  • Attract, lead, coach, appraise and develop the Sales team and increase enablement;
  • Lead and develop the commercial Sales strategy, short term and long term for the area of responsibility;
  • Actively prospect, win and onboard new business;
  • Lead and drive, share of wallet and margin improvement activity within the existing trading base;
  • Develop and manage the budget and direct all associated activities;
  • Direct and drive the realization of planned results and of departmental contributions to cross-sector projects, monitor and decide on allocation of finances to remain within budget restrictions;
  • Evaluate organisational design, (work) processes and systems; initiate and implement changes and improvements within the department;
  • Keep up with internal and external developments and ensure development, transfer and retention of knowledge and information;
  • Provide insights regarding quantitative and qualitative developments by means of periodical and ad hoc reports and / or analyses;
  • Specify, (co)develop and maintain instruments, policies, procedures and guidelines within the own functional area;
  • Lead and maintain a network of internal and external stakeholders / partners and represent the organisation;
  • Integration of policy, activities and processes of own business or functional discipline which are generally related in nature and objective and where there is a requirement for co-ordination with related functions which requires extended communication.

Functie eisen

  • Higher vocational education (hbo) or academic background in Business Administration with a focus on commerce;
  • Seasoned sales manager or sales director within a B2B / B2B trading environment on a senior level;
  • Experience of managing a large and varied sales team with the ability to evidence successful coaching and development through identifying individual strengths and motivations;
  • Experience of creating, delivering and achieving/exceeding targets and KPIs on a regular basis;
  • Proven experience in interacting with customers at board level on contract negotiations, problem solving and conflict resolution;
  • A proven track record of sales success in a customer-facing environment;
  • Fluency in: Dutch, French and English and living in Belgium, the Netherlands or Luxembourg;
  • Available to travel in the Benelux up to 40% of your time;
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation communication skills;
  • An excellent level of business acumen, with profit & loss reports and financial forecasting exposure;
  • Is an example for others, is a leader who ensures that individuals and groups buy into the strategy, plans, goals, climate and policy;
  • Knowledge of CRM systems and IT literate.
